Fortoss VITAL: Preparation and Application instructions

PREPARATION
1. The treatment site and flap should be prepared prior to mixing. Use gauze to retract and absorb blood from the relieved flap.
2. Open clear pouch using standard aseptic “no touch” technique. Remove mixing bowl and place in preparation area. Open foil pouch.
3. Shake the vial and empty the entire contents into mixing bowl.
4. Tap the mixing solution container on the bench to ensure all of the solution falls to the container base.
5. Open solution container lid, remove the liquid using the pipette. Squeeze pipette before immersing it into solution.
6. Ensure all of the solution is dispensed into the mixing bowl.
7. Use the sterile spatula to gently fold the powder and solution together until a paste begins to form. This takes no more than 10-15 seconds. Do not overmix – this can affect the setting and resulting barrier function.
8. Form the paste into a ball and rest the ball on the mixing bowl shelf until a mouldable putty is formed.
9. This short time can be used to ensure the site is dry.

APPLICATION (Gauze and Pause)
1. Dry surgical site using a sterile gauze or swab immediately prior to application.
2. Transfer Fortoss VITAL to surgical site using gentle pressure to ensure recesses are filled. A slight over packing is recommended.
3. Hold a moist gauze or swab over the Fortoss VITAL until the barrier function has formed sufficiently to close. This may take a further 3 minutes and is achieved once the material is firm to the touch. Full setting is reached after 2 hours.
4. Remove any excess material from the surrounding area.
5. Reposition the gingiva using tension free sutures.
