Biocomposites' Expansion Programme
Posted in November 2003
Staffordshire based biomedical company Biocomposites announced in October the final approval of an ambitious expansion and development programme. The company, which designs, manufactures and distributes devices for bone grafting and sports medicine, has recently completed a contract to build a new expansive corporate facility based at Keele University’s Science Park in North Staffordshire. The new accommodation, scheduled for completion by September 2004, will house office, laboratory and clean room facilities extending to 18,000 sq.ft.
The project is budgeted to cost £1.5m and has been supported by grant aid from Advantage West Midlands extended to bolster the creation of high skilled employment in the medical technology sector in the region.
Operations Director, Dr. Russell Waters said, “ the new facilities will provide significantly higher testing and manufacturing capacity and enable us to continue our device development programmes with teams of leading orthopaedic surgeons”.
The company networks closely with bioscience departments of UK and European universities and the new laboratory will provide the opportunity to exploit the results of its research programmes into tissue engineering. Biocomposites has already started its people recruitment which should eventually double its manufacturing, research and sales force.
