Products: STIMULAN®
This is a retrospective review of 127 patients who underwent breast reconstruction procedures with tissue expanders. A standardised protocol was adopted for 59 patients while 68 patients underwent the standardised protocol with the addition of STIMULAN which was used as a carrier material for vancomycin and gentamicin. The rate of tissue expander loss due to infection in the non STIMULAN group was 11.9% compared to 1.5% in the STIMULAN group. In this study STIMULAN reduced the risk of implant removal as a result of periprosthetic implant infection by 8-fold. The abstract can be read, and the full paper can be obtained here.
