Development of a Novel Model for the Assessment of Dead-Space Management in Soft Tissue

Oliver, R.A., et al. PLoS ONE, 2015. 10(8): p. e0136514.
Products: STIMULAN®
In this animal study STIMULAN was assessed for its effectiveness at managing dead space created in muscle tissue that can be a result of extensive debridement due to surgical treatment of infection. STIMULAN was used as a carrier material for vancomycin and tobramycin. STIMULAN was implanted into the dead space in muscle tissue where host tissue response and healing were monitored. The model demonstrates resolution of dead space, complete absorption of STIMULAN within 21 days, biocompatibility within soft tissue and at 72 hours after implantation antibiotic serum levels were non-detectable.
