Products: STIMULAN®
The aim of this retrospective analysis was to compare the outcomes and recurrence rates of pressure ulcers that were treated with STIMULAN beads used as a carrier material for antibiotics, to those that were not. In total, 86 patients underwent excision and flap coverage for the treatment of 120 stage IV pressure ulcers. This included 16 ulcers (15 patients) where STIMULAN beads were used and 104 (71 patients) where they were not. At 12 months, 43 of 120 (35.8%) ulcers had recurred. In the STIMULAN bead group two (12.5%) ulcers recurred, and in the non STIMULAN bead group 41 (39.4%) ulcers recurred. No elevated serum levels of antibiotics were observed.
